CrioYa searches for a School in Costa Rica

Check us out on ECOChallenge2020.org website and watch us as we search for the right school in to support in Costa Rica.

Enjoy the words we shared:

July 22 2011: From: Leslie from Crioya global Movement (condensed email) on Her Trip to Find a School in Costa Rica for our ECOChallenge2020.org Collaboration

Dear Jeannette, I am so happy that I am doing this work, traveling and living my passion. I am interested in learning more about business and really growing the business. I envision myself coming down here next time with a team, a small staff or group of individuals and really offering support to those that may want/need it! Exciting times, I am stronger than I was before!

I have learned a lot! I have also spoken with several people and have some great possibilities. I have some friends helping me out too! I have done some initial leg work and relationship building and chatting with collegues from before also. I spoke with a hotel receptionist that I met a few years ago and she truly made my heart sing. She is from a small town on the caribbean side called san clemente. This community is between two major tourist attractions. Cahuita (which has a beautiful national park), Puerto Viejo (which is know for it's surfing and caribbean culture) and Bribri an indigenous community. As Noemy says, this is the Costa Rica people don't know about. Here community of people are the forgotten ones. Banana plantations surround them and the fathers work for the large multinational corporations, but don't make much money. There is a school in the area that is underserved and in need of support. Noemy invited me to her house and community.

I am most impressed by the grassroots work Noemy has initiated. Recently, Noemy threw a party for the kids in her community that aren't able to attend school and who don't have much to do during the day. Working three jobs Noemy decided with 3 other adult community members to host this party. It was an overwhelming success. Approximately 44 children attended with bright smiles, eager to socialize, eat well, and break the piƱata. Noemy emphasized that no adults were allowed, only children. She has a desire to build an educational resource center out of her own home. She has the space and the willingness. Her first steps are to host more parties for the children (September 9th is the day of the child and the date for the next one). Then, she wants to build a library with book and games. She is interested in setting up workshops for the kids and adults with help from people abroad and locally. Her vision is large, she wants to help the women learn how to do hydroponics so they can depend on one another, grow their own food and then trade with one another. She is a very hardworking and caring woman, I am so gratefull that she shared her story and vision with me.

Pura Vida, I'll send more updates soon! And video too, Leslie

The SportsMan and CrioYa Re-connect.

We enjoyed a book signing with the SPORTSMAN, Dhani Jones. A man passionate about travel and cross cultural connection. As well as sports! It was a joy to listen to him talk about the importance of getting off the coach and doing something that scares you, everyday! He spoke about the need to explore the world around us, experiencing it with our own eyes, ears and forming our own opinions. This was a special day because I was able to reconnect with a fellow, UM alum, friend and most importantly, a kindred traveller. It is one of my favorite things in the world, to connect with people who are passionate and adventurous enough to travel the world.
It is even more amazing for me to meet up with people who truly understand the transformative power of traveling of journeying. Meeting people who are aware of the great opportunity we have to travel and learn. Dhani is an inspiration to me because of the way he uses his gift to inspire others. I learned that this dream of CrioYa Global Movement, is real, there is a huge need for me to plant my feet and show the world what I stand for, as his coach Carr from michigan once told him. It reaffirmed my belief that in order to create a more peaceful planet, more people from the US need travel and connect with more people around the world, so that we can see, feel, hear, taste and savor our interconnectedness. I was challenged to set my goals, higher, to set my goals so high so that I am forced to work so hard to reach them. That the vision for CrioYa is so much larger than me, that it is absolutely essential for more and more people to transcend borders, build bridges and connect to our passions, one another, and mother earth!

Travel well my friends and enjoy the journey called life!
One love

Indigenous Wisdom

Indigenous people have always taking time to honor and value their natural environments. They understand their connection to this planet we inhabit. We understand how important all people and things are. In our prayers we respect the waters, the four leggeds, the two leggeds and even the winged ones. We respect a connection in harmony with all our relations. This wisdom still exists in the daily practices of many. We just need to learn from them. It is important to see what people are doing that is RIGHT, and follow their lead. It is important, now more than ever, to nurture our connection with Mother Earth. This planet is beautiful, this planet is our home.

I enjoy this education video because of the true respect this author has for the endangered species. It also speaks about how indigenous people worship and respect leatherback turtles.

This video is hopeful and is clear that things CAN be better!

Enjoy!

CrioYa supports Indigenous Artists

We are super excited for our upcoming trip to Costa Rica. July 24th-Aug 1st, 2011.
We will be visiting many parts of Costa Rica. One of our highlights will be a trip to Galeria Namu, the premire fair trade gallery for indigenous crafts and folk art of Central America.

The name Namu according the the gallery, is the Bribri word for jaguar, the sacred animal to so may tribes of Central America. This name addresses one aspect of our mission-- to respect and celebrate the permanence and legacy of the first people of this land.

Costa rica is know for it's adventure travel. But, it is rich in cultural diversity and love for the land. Enjoy the images that can be found on Facebook or at the website.

Join us on our next trip.

The Afro presence in the Americas fascinates me. This is the 2011 the year of the Africa Descendant. We, at CrioYa, honor our african legacy. We advocate for the rights of African Descendants. We, delight, share, preserve and enjoy the gifts of our people. Every trip that CrioYa designs will honor the african presence in the places we journey. Peace, connection and One Love.
